BIO - Yvonne Fimbres

BIO

Oakland, California-born singer-songwriter/harmonica player, Yvonne Fimbrés aka Hot Lips, discovered her love of music at an early age while watching the legendary show American Bandstand. Tuning into the show every week Yvonne remembers appearances by Chuck Berry, Tina Turner, The Delfonics, and it was these performances that empowered her to pursue a musical career. While growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, Yvonne, played horns in the marching band and vocals in the church choir during elementary and middle school. On April 1st of 1977, Yvonne got her first big break when she received a call from the American blues Grammy Award-winning musician, Taj Mahal, asking her to join his band as a back-up vocalist. Yvonne is credited for singing backing vocals on album Music Fuh Ya’ (Musica Para Tu) by Taj Mahal released by Warner Bros. Records.

Yvonne recalls, “This was an amazing experience to collaborate with such a trailblazing vocalist/instrumentalist, bandmates, and learn the artistic and technical elements of the recording production process.”

Yvonne, singer and self-taught harmonica player in all styles, has played with artists like George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Fishbone, Mickey Thomas of Starship, Steve “The Colonel” Cropper, which backed artists such as Otis Redding. Her compositional interests include popular/commercial music, and cross-cultural collaborations between musicians and performers working in different genres (rock’n’roll, blues, jazz, soul, rhythm and blues, hip-hop). She continues to expand upon her musical skills and experience by inspiring audiences all over the world with her powerful voice and commanding harmonica playing. You can find her performing in spontaneous, open mic jam sessions, festivals, and other notable stages in the world of music.
